Time to Cut Ties

The once proud Seahawks, who made the Super Bowl just four years ago, are fluttering in a suddenly wide open NFC West. The only thing this squad has going for them right now is T.J. Houshmanzadeh. That’s about it. Matt Hasselbeck’s time as a Seahawk is over. It’s time to get this guy out and bring in someone else capable of leading, similar to what the Panthers did with Jake Delhomme. Charlie Whitehurst is not that guy. I like their receivers. Golden Tate, the rookie out of Notre Dame, could impress if he had the right guy to throw him the ball. The same goes for Deion Branch, T.J., all of them.

Seattle’s defense, particularly their pass defense, was dreadful last year. Not much will be different this year either. However, it could improve slightly this year due to the lack of offensive firepower in other teams within the division.

The bottom line remains, until Hasselbeck is gone, the Seahawks will remain a terrible team. They finish 6-10 this year, good enough for third in the NFC West.

Steve Largent best Seahawk of all time?

Hall of Famer, Steve Largent is my choice for best Seahawk of all time.. He played with courage and always seemed to come down with the ball in traffic even though he was physically smaller than most receivers. When he was playing he set numerous records which eventually got broken as Jerry Rice and others eventually passed him..

I am curious.. what do you guys think?

Seahawks introduce new coach Carroll

Pete Carroll pumped his fist. He talked excitedly and forcefully. He chopped the air with his hands, commanding his new audience.

Even though he had stepped back up into the NFL, he was still in charge — which is exactly why he’s in Seattle now instead of Southern California.

The charismatic Carroll took over as the new coach and executive vice president of the Seahawks on Tuesday, enthusiastically seizing an authority that he says mirrors the latitude USC gave him to restore its dynasty.

“They have embraced my approach … in a manner in which they want to wipe the path clear and give me the clearest opportunity to bring everything that I have to offer. That’s really what I was looking for, the trust and belief from the top of the organization,” Carroll said a day after his public farewell from USC.

“They don’t have an agenda of how they want their football played. They want me to do that. That’s exactly and precisely what I was looking for.”

Hasselbeck and Seahawks search for good news before heading to Dallas

Battered with broken ribs and humbled by a 2-4 start, Matt Hasselbeck sure could use some good news right now.

This season has been so ragged for the Seahawks, the quarterback nodded and joked of last weekend’s bye: “That’s a good matchup for us.”

Hasselbeck went to the Pro Bowl three times and the Super Bowl once with Bobby Engram as his wide receiver for most of this decade. They spent summer vacations together in Central Washington working out as their families played.

Then Engram left for Kansas City in free agency last spring.

Trufant working his way back onto field

Fans will be delighted to see Marcus Trufant back on the field for the Seattle Seahawks against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

A lot of the rest of us are just pleased to see that he still exists.

Since the start of training camp, when he was sidelined with a vaguely defined back injury, Trufant was the invisible man. He was cloistered inside the facility; rehabbing, the staff said.

Poor guy never saw the light of day, and he certainly didn’t get to watch practices or be much a part of the team.

“I was like a ghost,” Trufant said Monday. “But I was in there grinding, working hard trying to get back.”
